Dental Implants to Replace Teeth
The best treatment to replace missing teeth.
Do You Have This
A missing tooth or teeth
Desire to improve chewing efficientcy
The Solution
A dental implant is an artificial tooth replacement made of Titamium. It is placed into the jaw where the normal root of a tooth would exist. Then an abutment is attached to the implant and a crown is cemented onto the abutment. Ideally, one implant is recommended per tooth, but several implants may be used to create a bridge of prosthetic teeth.
The Advantage
Unlike other tooth replacements, dental implants do not attach, sacrifice the natural tooth structure, or exert additional forces onto the existing teeth in the mouth. Dental implants are self supporting to allow the distribution of forces generated in the mouth.
Implants can have a very realistic appearance because the prosthetic tooth actually emerges from the jaw. Other tooth replacement treatments try to create this illusion, but only an implant actually recreates this phenomenon. Implants are the closest replacement to your natural teeth.
No special process is needed to place a dental implant. Normal local anesthetic is all that is needed to complete this procedure.
The Disadvantage
Dental implants are more expensive and require a healing time of 3-4 months. During the healing period you can choose from many temporary tooth replacement appliances to continue your normal daily activities.
The Alternatives
A dental bridge or removable denture are common alternatives. Choose a denture only if absolutely necessary.
